The cost to attend an extremely exclusive Manhattan private school may seem expensive now, but the price of tuition is expected to continue skyrocketing in coming years. Some school officials are predicting that the annual cost of tuition could reach as much as $50,000 by the year 2015. This might mean a shift in how parents perceive these schools. Currently, around 30,000 city students attend a New York private school such as York Preparatory School, while 1.1 million students are in the public school system.
With the cost of tuition for some of these schools comparable to or even higher than the cost of attending an Ivy League college, why are the relatively limited spots in these schools in such high demand? Many parents see graduating from a private high school in New York like York Prep as a way to increase their child’s chances of being accepted to the best universities after graduation. However, spending the equivalent of university tuition on high school isn’t a guarantee that your son or daughter will be admitted to the Ivy Leagues. Still, private schools in New York City remain in high demand for all grade levels, despite the expense. And it’s unlikely that this will change anytime soon.
