Setting the Stage

Filed under: Wedding Services — admin @ 4:58 pm

Your wedding is a day that you will hopefully have fond memories of for years to come. To that end, creating a beautiful setting for your special event is one way to ensure that the day is truly a reflection of the love that you and your significant other feel for one another. From the tablecloths to the cake, one of the keys to a wedding you’ll never forget is the presentation.

Many couples start by picking a theme or the colors for their wedding. Once a unifying element has been selected, choosing the larger visual statements such as the design of the cake and the wedding centerpieces can commence. These will likely determine what smaller accents you will be using, including wedding favors, place settings, seat covers, napkins, and much more. If you choose to design your own wedding reception, buying discount wedding supplies can help save you money.

The Wrong Way to Fix Credit

Filed under: Finance — admin @ 11:30 am

Like most things, there are both good and bad credit repair organizations out there. When your financial future is at stake, it’s essential to know what to look for in a credit repair service. This will keep you from being targeted by scam artists who will only worsen your situation in the long run.

Many scam artists offer what seems to be a fast credit repair solution: filing disputes for all of the derogatory information on a consumer’s credit report. While legitimate inaccuracies can and should be disputed, poor credit decisions that the consumer actually made can only be resolved over time. Once the creditors respond to the disputes that have been filed, the items will be returned to the individual’s credit history. The next time the consumer requests a credit report, they’ll see nothing has changed.

Another fraudulent piece of credit repair advice that is sometimes offered is for consumers to apply for an “Employer Identification Number” from the IRS. An EIN is the same length as a Social Security number, and you may be advised to use your new EIN instead of you SSN when facing a credit check, as lenders won’t be able to access your actual credit report. Unfortunately, using an EIN like this is considered a felony, and having a blank credit history won’t do you much good anyway.

There are honest credit repair specialists out there, so don’t let potential scams prevent you from seeking help. Just be selective in who you choose.

A Growing Job Market

Filed under: Business Services — admin @ 11:09 am

In an economy where jobs are scarce and people are struggling to stay afloat, many companies are finding that their current call center solution isn’t robust enough to handle the demand. Despite layoffs in so many areas, there are new employment opportunities popping up around the country for those interested in working in an inbound or outbound call center. Qwest Communications in Des Moines will be holding a job fair to entice new applicants, while iQor Inc. is looking to expand their call center in Columbus. The latter area has a strong showing in this market, with JPMorgan Chase also looking to add a large number of employees to handle their answering services. Other busy call centers in the region include Discover Financial Services, Alliance Data Systems, and State Farm. With so many stories in the news about unemployment rates these days, it’s good to see an industry going strong.

Health Insurance for People Who Become Unemployed

Filed under: Insurance — admin @ 11:00 am

As the number of unemployed workers continues to increase every month, people who have lost their jobs find themselves with many questions about unemployment, including what their options are for health insurance now that they are out of work. A quick look at insurance quotes online will show that the premiums on individual insurance policies can be very expensive and financially burdensome to someone who is already struggling to pay rent/mortgage and bills. And an online insurance quote may become even higher when dependents require coverage as well.

For workers who become unemployed, there’s another option: the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act, or COBRA. This gives you the right to carry your previous group health insurance coverage from your employer for up to 18 months. Unlike when you were employed, you must pay the full premium, but most workers find that it is less than individual premiums for similar coverage.

According to the Insurance Information Institute, COBRA is available to people who leave their jobs or become unemployed, as well as to widows/widowers of an employee who died while working for the same company for at least three years, divorced spouses/children of an employee who left the company after being employed for at least three years, and children under 23 of employees who left a job. However, the employer must complete the required paperwork within 60 days of leaving his or her job to become eligible for COBRA benefits.

If you were previously enrolled in a health plan through your job, you may be able to avoid the premiums associated with an individual policy. Insurance online quote services may not alert you to the COBRA option, so be sure to investigate it with your previous employer as soon as possible.
