Single mothers grants for you

Filed under: Education — publisher @ 2:17 am

So, are you a single mother and finding it hard to get by?

The first thing you need to do if you want a better future for your child is get yourself enrolled into a career of your choice, and avail of the several single mothers grants that are offered especially when one opts for online course at an accredited university.

The internet has changed the way one can learn with an abundance of information on virtually every topic, and now one can drink from the fountain of knowledge with a few keystrokes. While most adults going back to school are busy people who have responsibilities to take care of, when it comes to their family, work and so on and so forth, it bodes well that one can study a degree that will only further their prospects in the real world at their own pace.

This phenomenon is not only popular with young adults but is characterized by older women going back to school to either finish their education or follow a dream that they could not when they were younger.

And as inspiring as that sounds, one can only deduce that one of the benefits of the internet is that it has crossed all boundaries and broken long-held traditions of the past that should have been let go off a long time ago.

Things to Consider Before Enrolling in Adult Dance Classes

Filed under: Education — admin @ 1:19 pm

Let’s say that even though you consider yourself to have two left feet but despite this obviously laughable impediment your enthusiasm for the ultimate nonverbal expression knows no bounds since you watched the last episode of ‘So you think you can dance’.

Now before you rush off to the nearest dance studio which gives you lessons in a plethora of dance styles, perhaps you should curb your enthusiasm in order to make an educated choice. Sounds good?

Here are some things to take into consideration before you enroll yourself for a dance class:

1) Peruse through the different styles of dance, perhaps by watching videos over the internet to see which one suits your mood, persona, taste and most importantly, fitness level.
2) It will be good to look for dance studios which offer sample lessons before you get to handing over your hard-earned money and spending your time with a particular studio. Take your time with this as there plenty of studios out there that will be more than happy to accommodate your needs. One look at the Yellow Pages, ads in newspapers and online directories will tell you how much choice you have
3) Finding a good teacher (who makes dancing fun and look easy) at a reputed dance studio should be your next objective, as this is vital to getting value for our money. It is recommended that you get a good look at the studio as well as obtaining important information about the class before committing to any class.
4) Once you have found the class of your choice (suiting your time and budget), always wear clothes that are comfortable for the entire duration of the class.

Learning to Play the Guitar Online

Filed under: Education — admin @ 2:18 am

The World Wide Web offers a huge amount of resources that can help one learn how to play a guitar. These internet resources not only teach you how to play songs but also provide tips on repairing a broken guitar, playing fancy chords and much more.

What you’ll need to get started with guitar lessons

– You will need a guitar. There are many types of guitars available but any type of six-string guitar will just do just fine.
– You will need a “guitar pick” also called a plectrum designed for use on a guitar. It is recommended that medium gauged picks are easier to start with, but any type will work okay.
– You will need a chair without arms.
– Above all, you will need a reasonable amount of patience.

The online guitar courses are developed by a professional guitar player. The course will have multimedia tutorials that will provide a step-by-step guide to help you understand the fundamentals in playing the guitar.

Some online trainers will send you instructions as PDF documents along with an mp3 file of the lessons for you to practice. After enough practice, you would be expected to record a video of you playing so that you can upload it on YouTube or share it directly with your trainer for evaluation. This is a better way for you to learn so that your trainer can also see how you are progressing.

Eleven tips for Asking Questions at Meetings and Conferences

Filed under: Education — admin @ 2:43 pm

Be it a meeting or a conference, the question & answer (Q & A) session can be either a lively one or simply a platform for people to speak their thoughts out aloud. However, the downside of giving people this platform is that in most cases, deviation of the topic, monopolization of time, irrelevant comments and questions all lead to a complete waste of time.
Q&A sessions should essentially be utilized effectively. Here is a concise guide on facilitating productive and thought provoking sessions.

– Go through the question in your head before you actually say it out aloud. Try to put it together first and then pose your question.

– If the meeting or conference is being held with a large group of people, request for a microphone and then ask your question.

– Wait until the audience has settled down before you raise your hand.

– It is good to thank the speaker but keep it brief.

– If the situation is a formal one, refrain from using the speaker’s first name. It is not good etiquette.

– An introduction is good and useful, but a short one will suffice.

– Use your introduction to check the sound. If it sounds like you cannot be heard, speak up.

– When posing questions, it is important to stay focused. Multiple questions, varying theories and feedback will only confuse the audience and not serve any purpose.

– If you require a comprehensive answer, then save it for later – to pose at a one-on-one session. Your question must be simple.

– If you find yourself asking a question that does in fact require a lengthy explanation, then a simple, polite statement such as “Perhaps this can be addressed later.” will do.

– Sensitive questions that could cause offence to the audience or the speaker must be avoided.

How to Improve Your Listening Skills in 3 Easy Steps

Filed under: Education — admin @ 8:12 pm

Are people always complaining that you never seem to hear what they say? Unless you have a serious ear infection or are actually going deaf, the art of listening is not so hard to re-learn. Just try out these steps and see how things work out:

Step 1: Practice Active Listening

Just because you hear something, does not mean that you have understood everything you just heard. Do not take it for granted. It is quite easy for us to get distracted by the most routine things. You might find yourself thinking about what you are going to wear for that party tomorrow while your boss is briefing you on an important task at work.
To avoid getting distracted it is important to practice active listening. Do not simply reply on just hearing the words, listen to them and try to process all the bits of information coming your way. Consciously urge yourself to listen, and keep your mind focused. Do not let it wander off.

Step 2: Reinforce the Message

If you find it difficult to focus, then the art of listening can be challenging, but you must keep trying. Mentally repeating everything a person tells you is another way to improve listening skills. This is fairly similar to taking down notes. This is one of the best ways to reinforce the message in your head, and this will lessen the chance of you forgetting it later on.

Step 3: Do not Interrupt

Remember to keep your thoughts to yourself until the person speaking to you has finished. This will ensure that you have heard everything in full. If you interrupt, not only will it take a toll on the speaker, but on yourself as well. If you are worried that you will forget the questions you want to ask, just jot them down and ask them at the end.
Keep in mind that cultivating the art of listening is fairly easy – all it needs is a fair amount of perseverance on your side and commitment to keep at it.

That is why it is important for college-bound students to receive tutoring and college counseling throughout their academic career, starting from elementary to when they are finally ready to apply for college.

Is Private School Worth the Cost?

Filed under: Education — admin @ 10:48 am

The cost to attend an extremely exclusive Manhattan private school may seem expensive now, but the price of tuition is expected to continue skyrocketing in coming years. Some school officials are predicting that the annual cost of tuition could reach as much as $50,000 by the year 2015. This might mean a shift in how parents perceive these schools. Currently, around 30,000 city students attend a New York private school such as York Preparatory School, while 1.1 million students are in the public school system.

With the cost of tuition for some of these schools comparable to or even higher than the cost of attending an Ivy League college, why are the relatively limited spots in these schools in such high demand? Many parents see graduating from a private high school in New York like York Prep as a way to increase their child’s chances of being accepted to the best universities after graduation. However, spending the equivalent of university tuition on high school isn’t a guarantee that your son or daughter will be admitted to the Ivy Leagues. Still, private schools in New York City remain in high demand for all grade levels, despite the expense. And it’s unlikely that this will change anytime soon.

Why Interview Training?

Filed under: Education — admin @ 11:23 am

While something like executive media training for handling reporters might seem an odd or even extraneous course for a business professional, the reality is that it is one of the most important skills that anyone who finds themselves in a spokesperson position can learn.  Public image can make or break a company, and anyone serving as the public face of a business needs to be able to project exactly the right image and persona.  Even natural charisma can only go so far when one isn’t aware of what the reporters are looking for.

So what does interview training entail?  The main objective is for a spokesperson to be able to deliver the company’s message in a manner that allows for quotes to be pulled as sound bites.  The other essential factor is to be able to handle each interview according to the style of the reporter, even if they are downright hostile.
