Southern California home builders have long been at the forefront of environmentally-friendly construction techniques. This includes the use of solar panels to help provide the residential energy needs for new home owners. Not only can solar energy help conserve energy but it can also help home owners reduce their electricity costs and get federal, state and local subsidies.
A new era of green construction in Los Angeles might have recently been reached with the opening of The Villages at Heritage Springs in Santa Fe Springs, Calif. With 18 single-family homes and 19 townhomes for sale, the site is considered to be the largest solar powered community in the United States.
Developer Comstock Homes has partnered with San Jose-based general construction contractors SunPower to install solar roof tiles on each of the new homes in the community. This will help homes within The Villages at Heritage Springs community to exceed the national energy standard by 50 percent.
