Pad Hard Surfaces in the Home for Safety

Filed under: Goods and Services — admin @ 6:48 pm

Home is where we should feel our safest and most comfortable, but the potential for accidents will always exist. With the sheer amount of time spent in our homes and the myriad weekend projects we take on that we would never be asked (or allowed) to do in a work capacity, it makes sense that many accidents occur in and around the home. One way to help reduce these chances is implementing foam safety products.

One of the more perilous locations in a home is the basement, with its poor lighting, low ceilings, and exposed support beams. These create an opportunity for banged elbows, stubbed toes, and bumped heads along hard or sharp surfaces. Rubber cushions manufactured in many different foam densities are one solution to the dangers present in your basement, with thin sheets of foam able to be wrapped around angular, low-hanging duct work or joists. It can also be wrapped around basement support poles, or cushioning, pre-cut polyurethane foam safety cylinders can be purchased that easily slide over a pole for full protection.

Fireplaces are another area of the home that can be the source of accidental injuries. Not because of the fire, but due to the construction of the hearth. Made of hard stone and brickwork, hearths can jut into walking areas with unforgiving edges that are dangerous to both children and adults. Cushioning the edges with fire retardant polyurethane foam can reduce the chance of a skinned shin or the danger of a child hitting their head. Typically set over a wooden frame that allows the bumper to be placed on the hearth edge without installation into the brick or stone, these covers use protective foam densities that can be an addition to your décor as well.

Staying safe should always be something you’re aware of, and with a little prevention, we can enjoy our homes that much more.
