The Possibilities of Foam-Lined Clothing

Filed under: Goods and Services — admin @ 5:13 pm

In some of the most extreme environments and situations, it’s ingenuity and creativity that can help you get by, not a quick and easy store-bought solution. While for most people winter parkas and down-filled jackets keep them warm enough, there are some people who choose to push their boundaries and delight in taking on challenges few others would attempt.

For individuals such as these, cold-weather endurance is one of the greatest tests of knowledge and ability. Spending days and nights in the wilderness’ frigid temperatures is incredibly dangerous for those without proper knowledge and training. The right equipment is equally as important, and to survive in situations where store-bought apparel won’t cut it, many outdoors enthusiasts have turned to creating their own winter survival gear, with open-cell foam as the insulating secret ingredient.

By those who create their own foam-based clothing, these cushion inserts are said to retain heat far better than even the most expensive outdoor apparel. The minimal transfer of heat through the form also means the clothing’s outer shell won’t melt snow or ice. This is a major factor in outdoor enjoyment as moisture can make an individual miserable. And in extreme environments, getting wet can be a serious situation, as it rapidly draws away body heat.

Folding foam into coats and pants with breathable shells creates an insulating layer that is said to dry quickly from body moisture generated while wearing the gear. This kind of ingenuity can also be applied to foam sleeping bags, with the same principle in effect of staying warm without warming the areas around you.

It’s important to never put yourself in harm’s way without proper training, equipment and knowledge, but for individuals with the experience to do so, many have turned to their own modified foam-filled clothing for experiencing what few have before.
