West Aurora High School Gets Artificial Grass Fields

Fake grass is considered a durable and cost-effective surface for athletic fields. It can be used nearly 3,000 hours a year (three times as long as natural grass), increasing valuable practice and play times. In addition, synthetic grass can provide the flexibility to use the field in the rain or during the months of the year when natural grass does not grow. These and many other reasons are why schools such as West Aurora High School are switching from natural grass to synthetic grass fields.

The Beacon News reports that West Aurora High School in Chicago, IL is preparing for construction of a new artificial athletic grass field on May 17. The school board approved the decision on Monday to accept donations to be used on the project.

Like many high schools, West Aurora wanted a new synthetic field but lacked the funds to green-light the project. But last fall, the school began running the Field of Dreams fundraising campaign and raised more than $800,000. According to the article, the school can now buy artificial turf and complete the project thanks to more than 100 donations and a $25,000 grant from the U.S. Soccer Foundation.  Congratulations from Artificial Turf Supply!
