Diesel Generator Sparks Debate in Small Australian Town

Filed under: Industrial — admin @ 6:42 pm

In a small town in Western Australia called Ravensthorpe, about 330 miles south of Perth, a diesel generator has proved to be the immediate solution to power needs, although it has also sparked a debate. At a legislative assembly last month, Shadow Minister for Regional Development Alannah MacTiernan criticized the State Government for rejecting a proposal for a biomass power plant in favor of a diesel generator, the Esperance Express reports. Ms. MacTiernan called the generator “outdated” and “not fit for the 21st century” and expressed disapproval that the town did not focus on renewable energy.

While the idea of the power plant has not been ruled out altogether, Minister for Regional Development Brendon Grylls countered that installing a source of immediate power was critical. “We are talking about a town where they have blackouts and brownouts every day, and Ms. MacTiernan saying we should leave the people of Ravensthorpe for the next 18-24 months until we find a long-term solution is not good enough,” Grylls said. He added, “Yes, it includes an increase in fuel consumption and carbon emissions, but asking the people of Ravensthorpe to put up with regular blackouts for another two years is not an acceptable outcome. If your power’s out, it’s pretty hard to run a business…I believe that in the short-term, the solution is going to be to isolate the town of Ravensthorpe (from the energy grid) and put in place a diesel generator, and I’m not prepared to make the people of Ravensthorpe wait.”

This shows that when power is needed immediately, the best option is often diesel generators. Florida based General Power Limited offers quick shipping on a range of standby generators to fulfill any power requirements. Stock includes ratings from 50 KW to a 500 KW generator and larger. Find Cummins, Perkins, SDMO, Kubota, John Deere generators, and more at General Power Limited today.

Alternatives to Invisalign

Filed under: Health — admin @ 12:43 pm

When it comes to straightening teeth through cosmetic dentistry, Toronto residents have a number of choices for a more attractive smile. Among teenagers and adults, Invisalign is a popular solution to a crooked smile; however, Invisalign is not for everyone. In serious cases, the patient may require an alternative such as porcelain veneers. Toronto residents who are considering Invisalign should be aware of the following options:

  • Traditional orthodontics such as metal or ceramic braces. Sometimes, traditional is best, especially if the patient requires a solution that will cause a lot of tooth movement. Although traditional orthodontics can be uncomfortable and unsightly, what they lose in these areas, they generally make up in cost. Invisalign is about 20% to 50% more expensive than traditional orthodontics.
  • Veneers. Patients who are interested in Invisalign can sometimes benefit from veneers instead. Veneers are a very thin ceramic casing applied to the outside of the tooth that results in whiter, straighter, and more closely spaced teeth. Unlike Invisalign, which could take years to close in the gaps in teeth, veneers are a more immediate solution.
  • Extraction. In the case of overcrowding, some patients may require a more intensive procedure such as tooth extraction to correct the problem. Invisalign may not be able to treat severely overcrowded or gapped teeth.
  • Dental implants. Decaying, diseased, and defective teeth can be replaced by strong, durable prosthetics known as dental implants. For patients with missing teeth or teeth that require replacement, implants may be the best solution to restoring a damaged smile.

Toronto residents can contact dentists Dr. Andrew Charkiw and Dr. Armaghan Afsar of Toronto Smile Makeovers to discuss treatment options and determine the most appropriate course of action for them. For residents of Toronto, teeth whitening, root canal therapy, crowns, dental bonding, gum disease therapy, and other dental services are also offered at Toronto Smile Makeovers.

Miele S7 Upright Earns Design Award

Filed under: Electronic — admin @ 5:32 pm

Miele, manufacturer of Miele vacuums and appliances, recently won 10 “Red Dot” design awards, including a “Best of the Best” recognition from the Design Zentrum Nordin design center in Germany. The “Red Dot” contest honors quality and innovation in design. Many Miele products were honored, including one of the most versatile Miele vacuum cleaners available, the S7 Upright Vacuum Cleaner.

According to the press release, the “S7 breaks the boundaries between upright and canister—combining the very best of both worlds into one ultra-maneuverable design. Its patented new SwivelNeck™ technology allows the user to effortlessly move the vacuum in any direction—even laying flat to the floor—with an extremely low profile that glides under beds, tables, and more. An integrated telescopic wand and specialized cleaning tools—such as one would find on a Miele canister vacuum—allow the user to easily shift from floors to crevices, stairs, furnishings and drapes. An energy-saving automatic setting, on select models, intelligently selects the correct suction level for optimal cleaning results and power usage.”

Of the “Red Dot” award for Miele vacuum parts design, Senior Marketing Manager Paul McCormack said, “To be recognized by the international jury panel with ten internally coveted awards is an amazing honor; one received by our German-based design team with great pride. The ‘Red Dot’ design award is a distinction bestowed on excellence. It is a testament of the dedication the Miele engineers have to forever improve upon our high-caliber appliances.”

Types of Credit

Filed under: Finance — admin @ 5:20 pm

As anyone who has researched credit repair solutions in detail can tell you, not all lines of credit are created equal. This concept may be confusing to some. After all, money owed is money owed, right? Wrong. The type of credit that you use to fund purchases can have a dramatic impact on your credit score.

Revolving credit is the type of credit that is most often abused by consumers, sometimes resulting in dire circumstances such as needing credit repair after bankruptcy. What is revolving credit? The type of debt familiar to a vast number of consumers falls under this label: credit cards. Racking up credit card debt is relatively easy, as a person can continue to make charges until all of their cards are maxed out and they can’t obtain any new ones. Lenders see this type of consumer as irresponsible about their financing, meaning they’re less likely to repay debts.

A credit repair specialist will tell you that installment debt is a better path to take in the event that you need to borrow money. The classic home equity loan is an example of installment debt. The money you are able to borrow is based on the equity of your property, meaning you are borrowing against actual collateral. The lender will require you to make fixed payments until the balance of the loan has been paid off. This type of loan can actually improve your credit score, as it shows lenders that you are a disciplined borrower.

Why Buy Renters Insurance?

Filed under: Insurance — admin @ 5:26 pm

Most renters forgo renters’ insurance thinking that the landlord’s insurance will cover losses in the event of a theft or fire. However, most landlords’ policies don’t cover any of their tenants’ personal belongings. This means that all of your valuables, including electronics, computers, clothing, antiques, furniture, jewelry, and others are at stake if the building burns down, suffers water damage, or is vandalized. It also means that you will be liable for all expenses related to any injury that a visitor incurs while in your apartment, including legal expenses.

What does renters’ insurance cover? According to the Insurance Information Institute (III), most policies name certain “perils” against which it will protect the policyholder, including fire or lighting, vandalism/theft, smoke, windstorms, and water damage. Standard policies generally cover cost-of-living expenses as well in case you are displaced by one of the named perils.

When shopping for insurance quotes, be aware that there are two different types of renters’ insurance policies, says the III. An Actual Cash Value policy will cover the value of your possessions (minus a deduction for depreciation) up to the limit of the policy. A Replacement Cost policy will cover the value of your possessions (with no deduction) up to the limit of the policy. In addition, you may want to get an insurance quote for a “floater.” A floater provides coverage for items that exceed the limit of the policy and covers them for accidental loss. If you’re looking on the Internet for renters insurance, online quote services will list a floater as a separate policy.

What to Do If You Have a Medical Emergency Abroad

Filed under: Insurance — admin @ 11:39 am

A medical emergency can be one of the most terrifying situations you’ll ever experience. Very few of us have been trained on how to handle this type of crisis quickly and efficiently. And if the medical emergency takes place while you’re traveling abroad, the unfamiliar sights, sounds, and languages can make the situation even more frightening—as well as put you at greater risk for failure to receive the care you need when you need it.

In order to reduce this risk, take the following precautions before you start your trip:

  • Purchase travel health insurance. The cost of private healthcare abroad may be prohibitively high, and healthcare at local facilities may be inaccessible or unavailable at your time of need. A pre-purchased health insurance plan will give you flexibility and the financial benefits of health insurance. If you are moving to a foreign country, consider international health insurance to protect you while living overseas.
  • Contact the local U.S. Embassy to obtain a list of physicians and facilities for Americans who require medical attention abroad. Most travel health insurance plans allow you to see any doctor within a specified coverage area, so it’s a good idea to identify your options beforehand and carry that information with you in the event of an emergency. Get the local embassy’s contact information at http://www.usembassy.gov/.
  • Receive the proper vaccinations before traveling. For entry into some countries, vaccinations are required. Getting a physical is also wise to rule out any possible problems that could be exacerbated by the conditions of the country to which you are traveling.
  • Pack a medical emergency kit containing any prescriptions, aids, and/or devices that you may need. Be sure to include a medical ID bracelet or identification tag if you have a condition that warrants wearing one. Even if you’re a perfectly healthy 20-year-old and have purchased international student health insurance, the contents of a comprehensive medical emergency kit could provide valuable aid until professional medical attention can be received.

Break the Rules: White Boards

Filed under: Business Services — admin @ 10:41 am

In 2001, a teacher invented a new product that would make white boards a lot more appealing to users, paving the way for single mom entrepreneurs, Examnier.com reports. After searching for her missing dry eraser to clean the white board in her classroom, Julia Rhodes realized that other teachers shared the same frustration. Instead of using her hands to erase the white board, she decided to invent, patent, and manufacture a dry erase board marker with a built-in eraser on the tip. The purpose? So that the eraser can’t get lost.

The article goes on to list her top three tips for “mompreneurs”: break the rules, break the rules, and break the rules. According to Rhodes, breaking the rules actually led her to inventing more products. When she was told that a woman with a single product couldn’t sell it to retailers without a man backing her up, instead of being discouraged, Rhodes cut out a man’s image from a sheet of white board and glued it to a stick so that she could have a man with her at the pitch. Rhodes agrees that it helped her sell the product, and gave her an idea for her second product, “a handheld whiteboard paddle used in classrooms to encourage student participation, making the learning process more interactive—and paperless.” Another one of her unique inventions, and one that caught the attention of Tonight Show host Jay Leno, is a white board dress that she custom-tailored to wear to all of her business meetings and trade shows.

New Caterpillar Forum

Filed under: Hardware — admin @ 9:58 am

We know that when it comes to diesel generators, Florida isn’t the only place where the technology is applied. That’s why it’s always helpful to hear ideas from around the world, as well as information about different generators, from a Perkins diesel generator to a Broadcrown generator and beyond.

To facilitate the transfer of ideas and create a dialogue among the power generation community, Caterpillar Inc. has launched a forum called the Power Generation Online Community. Billed as “an interactive forum where consulting specifying engineers and other power generation professionals can exchange ideas and best practices,” the forum is free to use and prior experience with Cat power generation equipment is not required. The forum is located at www.catelectricpowerinfo.com/connect.

According to Cat’s Electric Power Division Manager of Marketing Communications, “The goal of the online community is to provide a place where users can find answers to questions and interact with their peers. Caterpillar is hosting the forum, but the primary goal is to help people in our industry connect with each other around the clock and around the world.” Users from more than 100 countries have joined the forum so far, talking about everything from emissions requirements to emergency generators to automatic transfer switches.

As with other online forums, the Cat forum allows users to create new topic threads and give “kudos” to other users whose input is deemed valuable. In addition, users can highlight the best responses to their specific questions and tag posts with relevant keywords.

Prefabricated Metal Buildings

Filed under: Hardware — admin @ 9:45 am

Whether you need a new barn or storage facility, you may not want to spend the time and money that it takes to build one from scratch. Instead, high-quality prefabricated metal buildings offer an affordable alternative. Today, people are using prefabricated buildings to accommodate a wide range of needs, including sport arenas, garages, and even homes. That is because a metal building can be set up quickly and easily and is extremely versatile. Metal buildings can be custom-made to meet your specific requirements. A pre-engineered metal building, such as a steel building, can incorporate a wide variety of traditional building components so that it will blend in with the surrounding buildings. Additionally, metal buildings can be built in all shapes, sizes, colors, and styles. Companies that specialize in designing and engineering steel frames can also create multi-level structures that are functional, economical, and aesthetically suitable. For additional storage space, you can add single level or multi-level custom mezzanines into your building design.
